Member Monday Featuring Doug Mattice

This next photograph by KelbyOne member Doug Mattice gave us a quiet and reflective feeling. The intricate and unique stain glass draws your attention to a solemn moment.

The silhouette shown here really tells a story and draws you in! With this old-world architecture, it’s hard to imagine that this was taken recently in Nashville, Tennesee.

The talented Doug Mattice joins us to share his journey on today’s Member Monday, enjoy!

  • Years in Photography: 35 years part-time
  • Years as a KO Member: 5

About the Photo:

  • Title: Meeting My Maker
  • Location: Nashville, Tennessee
  • Any additional description: I was attending a seminar and noticed the afternoon light coming through the window. I had a person from the AV crew pull up a chair and sit while I took the image from my seat. Gear/Software Used – Photographed on an iPhone7 with artistic apps in post.

What is one thing you wish you would have known before starting photography?

To really get good at the craft of photography, you have to be willing to put in the time both behind the camera and in front of the computer in post-production. If you are not willing to study art and other photographs, you will always be an amateur.

Who are some of your role models/mentors?

I was mentored early in my career by Don Blair, Chuck Lewis, Monte Zucker and learned proper lighting and posing techniques. Today I continue to learn my craft by watching Kelby Training Courses and attending the Grid telecasts.

What is your most treasured piece of photography equipment?

I am a Canon user and love my macro lens as well as the 70-200 2.8 lens.

What’s your favorite class on KelbyOne and why?

I enjoyed Scott Kelby’s SLIM course and recently How To Make Beautiful Prints in LR. KelbyOne always keeps me up to date with the latest trends.
