Member Monday Featuring Beverley Van Santen

This golden wheat field is absolutely mesmerizing, and we knew we had to have a conversation with the woman behind the shot.

The cherry on top is the beautiful mountains peeking out in the distance, as well as the clean lines leading your eye around the photograph. We’re very proud of Beverley Van Santen for submitting this image!

Here’s Beverley to tell you all about the shot!

About the Photographer

  • Hometown: I live at 8,300’ in the Colorado Rockies in Maysville, Co.

About the Photo:

  • Location: Located in northern Colorado.
  • Any additional description of the photograph: We were camping in a campground next to this field. I went out after dinner to walk around and found the field. The next morning when we drove out, the field was being plowed. this was in late August 2019.
  • Gear/Software Used: Shot taken with an iPhone 7 and processed in Snapseed.

What is one thing you wish you would have known before starting photography?

I wish I would have known how expensive this hobby can be!

Who are some of your role models/mentors?

Two of my inspirations are both associated with Kelby One. Kalebra Kelby for her tutorial ‘You Shot that with an iPhone‘. Also, Susan Sammon. I took a Rick Sammon’s 3-day class sponsored by Canon. I was totally outclassed by the level of skill in the class. Susan introduced me to Snapseed for processing photos. I use Snapseed and Photoshop Express to process my iPhone photos.

What is your most treasured piece of photography equipment?

My most treasured equipment is my iPhone 11 Pro. The capabilities of this phone are endless. Although I have my Canon camera and lenses, I found that I was getting amazing portraits with the iPhone 11.

What’s your favorite class on KelbyOne and why?

Hard to choose but the Travel Photography class by Rick Sammon and Scott Kelby provided me with ideas about how to photograph what was then my upcoming trip to Ethiopia.
