Easy-To-Use Magnetic Light Modifiers for Your Flash
Review by Gilmar Smith
The MagMod Professional Flash Kit comes with a MagBounce, MagGrid, MagSphere, MagGrip, MagGel, and eight Creative Gels. What differentiates MagMod from the rest in the market is the revolutionary use of magnets and the high quality of MagnetMod’s products. I used many modifiers before I fell in love with the way these modifiers attach to my flash, and it’s so easy to be creative by stacking them. I’ve never been a fan of Velcro, and if you’re on set with limited time, the last thing you want is to waste time trying to attach modifiers to your light. You won’t have that problem with MagMod. It comes with a universal magnetic mount that’s compatible with most flashes in the market. The magnets have a really good grip, so you won’t have to worry about your modifiers falling at all.
The MagSphere diffuses the light, creating softer, beautiful, and natural wraparound light. You can add gels to it, or even the MagGrid. You can also fold it and squish it to make it fit in any bag.
The MagBounce increases the size of your flash making it look more like light coming from an umbrella, or a large light source. It can be used in landscape or portrait. You can also combine the MagBounce with gels.
The MagGrid is great for controlling the spread of light. It can be used with gels to create a special effect, or combined with the other modifiers to control light spill. It’s also made of rubber, so you don’t have to worry about it getting damaged the way metal grids can and, unlike many other grids I’ve tried, this one will stay on the flash.
The MagGel secures the gels to the flash. The gels are made of thick plastic and come in eight colors; however, you can stack many gels to make different colors. ■
