Describe your creative style in 3 words
Peaceful, strong, modern
Tell us about a time you struggled or failed with your photography, and how you overcame it?
I was always perturbed because my images weren’t as tack sharp as the ones I see in KelbyOne classes. So I purchased a Canon R5. Problem solved!
What sparked your love of photography?
My Dad was into photography as a hobby in the late 60’s/early ’70s when I was a teenager. We had a darkroom in the attic and he taught me to develop my own film and print my own images. I was the photographer of our high school yearbook. After taking a break to get my engineering career and family going, I eagerly jumped back into photography as a hobby about 15 years ago.
What’s your favorite class on KelbyOne and why?
They are all fabulous with such an impressive line up of instructors, so impossible to narrow it down. Pretty much any class Scott has done is my favorite. I see his teaching somewhere in every one of my photos.

Great photos Jon!
I have a question for you regarding the R5 Cannon. What is it about the R5 that creates tack sharp images over what you using before? I use a Nikon D500 with their AF-S 200-500mm f5.6 lens, I have a problem with my photos not being as sharp as others that are using the same lens. Is it the equipment or is me, when I compare my photos to others using the same equipment.
Tim, hopefully, Jon sees your question here, but you may also want to contact him directly through Instagram @jonherrin_photo!
Tim, my issue with getting tack sharp images was part user error and part equipment. Camera shake at slower shutter speeds and just not getting the best focus were issues I had to figure out. I ended up using faster shutter speeds than I otherwise would use to get sharper images. Where the R5 helps is the 45 megapixel sensor and the amazing autofocus system. Also, the in-body stabilization helps with any camera shake issues. I’ve been able to take tack sharp images at 1/30th of a second hand-held with the R5.
Good luck with your photography!
