Happy Monday! In this week’s Member Monday we are thrilled to be featuring Darren Boyd! Darren is a fantastic portrait photographer based in Beckenham, south London and travels for projects all around the UK. Darren loves taking pictures of people and to capture beautiful characters behind the lens. This passion certainly shines through in his work.
1.) Can you tell us a little bit about the image (full image below)?
I call this image “Find Comfort in Being Confident.” It was taken in the beautiful Coombe Wood Gardens, in Croydon.
2.) What gear/software did you use to create this image?
For outdoor shoots, I tend to travel light, and I depend very heavily on the natural light available. For this image, I used a 55′ gold reflector to light my subject, and I captured the image with my trusty Nikon D7000 with a 55-300mm Nikon zoom lens. I always shoot in Raw and post edit in Lightroom, but with this image, I transferred it over to my iPad Pro for further detailed editing; using apps such as Affinity Photo, Snapseed and VSCO.
3.) What do you like to photograph?
I’m a portrait photographer, so portraits are my passion. I’m also into Mobile Photography, to which I recently came in first place in my category in the annual international IPPAWARDS.
4.) How long have you been a KelbyOne member and what made you decide to become a member?
I’ve been a member since April 2017, but to be honest, I hadn’t had the time to make use of the membership until recent (due to a new addition to my family unit). A few weeks ago, I encouraged myself to socialize and make use of the impressive service, and I posted what I believe was my first ever post to the KelbyOne community. My question was: What are the best ways to be noticed as a Portrait Photographer? The results from the members were very encouraging, with great tips and advice that led me to sharing my first photo hashtag to KelbyOne via Instagram, which is now being featured! Thank you for the advice from community family.
