Happy Monday! We’re excited to introduce you to another KelbyOne member, Karen Havenaar, and her adorable pup, Iggy. Karen is a photographer based out of the Netherlands and the image you see above is one of her many photos of Iggy.
1.) Can you tell us a little bit about your photo?
I named it “Step out of the Light” and it’s shot at a recreation area where I live nearby, het Brielse Meer (Briels lake). The shot is part of my 52 weeks of Iggy project, that’s a project I do on Flickr with the group 52 weeks for dogs. So this is my dog Iggy, a 3 year old Border Collie and full of energy. For this shot we had some together time without my other dog and Iggy loves that. Playing with the ball and swimming is what he likes best during our walks (sheep herding is his most favorite thing to do, but that’s work, no play). I took several shots during our session, but this one I like best because of the light in the back and Iggy really standing out. Of course Iggy didn’t mind running and running and running.
2.) What gear/software did you use to create this image?
This was taken with the Nikon D500 and Tamron 70-200 mm f/2.8 G2 at 1/2000 sec, 200 mm f/3.2 and ISO 640. I always shoot RAW, ever since I had my first camera and processed this one in LightRoom. My normal workflow is adding some light, playing with the shadows, clarity, adjustment brush and a bit of sharpness. In this case I didn’t use Photoshop, LR (and my camera) gave me everything I wanted.
3.) What do you like to photograph?
I like to photograph lots of things, but dogs really make my heart sing and I think you can tell that. Pictures with dogs are shot with love.
