Introducing Chris Handley! Chris is a portrait photographer based out of Fort Worth, Texas. He’s loved photographing people since he was about 7 years old when he first started using his dad’s Polaroid.

1.) What can you tell us about this photo, Young Astronomer? (Full version seen below)

Location is Murdoch’s Bathhouse on Galveston Island, TX. This bathhouse was originally built in the 1800’s and the structure was rebuilt in 1901, after the great storm of September 8, 1900 that killed between 6,000 and 12,000 people. Since then, the storms of 1909, 1915, and 2008 were so violent, that reconstruction was required after each. We vacation on the island at least once a year. This photo is one of several I shot that day. My grandson is the subject and there were also 2 of his friends in some of the other photos.

2.) What gear/software did you use to create this image?

Nikon D3, Nikon 70-200 f2.8 zoom @135mm, 1/400 SEC @F2.8, iso400

I used Lightroom for exposure adjustments and cropping and Photoshop to clone out some pigeons and deck chairs in the background.

3.) What do you like to photograph?

People, plain and simple. I dabble in “non-people” photos but I prefer people. The tag line of my photography is “capturing life as it happens” and I try and do just that. To quote the song Shimmer, “I have found, all that shimmers in this world is sure to fade, away, again.” I try and capture peoples “shimmer” before it fades away.

4.) What made you decide to become a member?

I joined KelbyOne in June of 2017, after hearing an ad somewhere either on youtube or a podcast. I was looking for some training on photoshop and also trying to take my photography skills to the next level.
