For Member Challenge #66, The Quiet Moment, we asked for something a little different: stillness. Not the big, dramatic scene—but the pause before it, or the calm that follows. The kind of image that doesn’t shout, but draws you in and makes you stay a little longer.

And you delivered.

From peaceful landscapes to quiet moments with people and animals, the range was beautiful. The quality? Even stronger. These weren’t just calm scenes—they were intentional photographs built on light, timing, and restraint. Images that show confidence in what not to include.

That’s growth. That’s awareness. That’s photographers trusting their eye and putting their KelbyOne training to work.

Winner: James Pivarnik

James’s winning image is a perfect example of quiet, intentional storytelling. The graceful curve of the swan’s neck, paired with the subtle drip of water from its beak, creates a moment that feels both intimate and unhurried. Set against the dark, uncluttered background, the subject stands out beautifully, with soft reflections adding depth without distraction.

What makes this image so strong is its restraint. Every element serves the mood—calm, focused, and deliberate. It draws you in, holds your attention, and lets the moment breathe. A beautifully executed interpretation of what “The Quiet Moment” is all about.

Runner Up: Dick Newbert

Dick’s image captures the essence of solitude and stillness in a beautifully understated way. A lone canoeist glides across the calm waters of Lake Sunapee, surrounded by soft morning mist and gentle light. The minimal composition, with the subject small in the frame, emphasizes the quiet scale of the scene and the peaceful connection between person and place. It’s a moment that feels unhurried and reflective—exactly the kind of image that invites you to slow down and take it in. A perfect interpretation of “The Quiet Moment.”
